These tiny #PoisonFrogs are one of the smartest species I have worked with. How big can their brains possibly be? #Frog #Frogs #Frogger #Froggy #FrogsOfInstagram #PoisonFrog #FrogLife #Aposematic #Aposematicism #AmphibiousAF #AmphibianFound #FrogsNeedOurHelp via Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BtTe3WQH8k9/

Let's do some #TinyFrog :)

 Starting this off with a baby Panamanian Lemur Leaf Frog (# Agalychnis lemur ) a critically endangered species. #TooCute #AmphibiousAF #FroggyAF #Frog #Frogs #Frogger #Froggy #FrogsOfInstagram #LeafFrog #LeafFrogs #TreeFrog #TreeFrogs #FrogLife #Crypsis #Mimicry #AmphibianFound #FrogsNeedOurHelp via Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BtRX8SpnOXy/

Amazing #Chameleon scan from an illustration project with Sarah Horsley.

Anatomically, Chameleons are one of the craziest things out there! The crest of an Oustaletts Chameleon (top left) The #zygodactylus #MittenHands (bottom left) The #PrehensileTail (top right)#ILoveNature I know it's a reptile, but this thing is #AmphibiousAF via Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BtMpbfaHUja/

Baby #GrouchyFrog Ceratophrys ornata -

Image
the Argentine Horned Frog It was one of these grumpy things that accidentally led me on my current path as a biologist and conservationist 23 years ago. Their chompy attitude still holds a warm place in my heart. We are hoping this little frog will grow strong and inspire others as they have me. #Frog #Frogs #Frogger #Froggy #FrogsOfInstagram #FrogLife #AmphibiousAF #AmphibianFound #FrogsNeedOurHelp via Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs0vU_ygjkr/

Back to the #GrouchyFrog series —

Image
This #RoundFrog is a hybrid cross of the #Anurophagus Ceratophrys cornuta and the far less particular C. cranwelli - the result is this beautiful and grouchy thing. #Frog #Frogs #Frogger #Froggy #FrogsOfInstagram #FrogLife #AmphibiousAF #AmphibianFound #FrogsNeedOurHelp via Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BsyIlWyAJJo/

Anthony and I just finished reviewing the script for an upcoming episode of Wild Kratts for @thekrattbrothers

— What an amazing show, and I was honored to help out again. Keep your eyes peeled next season for #PoisonFrog creature power! I am so grateful that I could give my son an opportunity to contribute to his favorite TV show :) #Frog #Frogs #Frogger #Froggy #FrogsOfInstagram #PoisonFrogs #FrogLife #Aposematic #AmphibiousAF #AmphibianFound #FrogsNeedOurHelp #WildKratts #CreaturePower via Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BswCQJRg2HN/

Next in the #GrouchyFrog series is this young #TomatoFrog (#Dyscophus guineti)

Holding this frog for a few seconds will coat your hand in noxious glue. Delightful. I have a soft spot for a #GrouchyFrog.

Image
If it's also a #RoundFrog like this one, then I just can't stand it. This baby #AfricanBullfrog has already bitten me once, and has doubled its size in a week. We are growing a group of these charmers for #CritterCamp this summer. #AmphibiousAF via Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BsofCjZgSaj/

Inaugural Session of the Master Herpetologist Program!

Image
This past Saturday was the very first class, of the very first offering of the Master Herpetologist Program. This program is offered at the Amphibian Foundation and instructed by Foundation staff, as well as Zoo Atlanta and was started by an introductory class lead by state Herpetologist for GA DNR — John Jensen. John Jensen (DNR) leading the first class of the Master Herpetologist Program in the Amphibious AF Meeting Room at the Amphibian Foundation. John showing off one of our native salamander species — a Tiger Salamander ( Ambystoma tigrinum ) John Jensen showing off Georgia's rarest frog, the Gopher Frog ( Lithobates capito ) 'Vinnie' the house tortoise in the meeting room enjoyed all the company and wasn't oo distracting during class. Vinnie is a Cherry-head Redfoot Tortoise ( Chelonoidis carbonaria ) For moe information on the program, see the Master Herpetologist Program

Fringed Leaf Frog #Cruziohyla craspedopus waking up for the evening. This is one of our original founders from Peru. Amphibian Foundation Co-Founders, Crystal and Anthony Mandica and I finishing up comments on a new script for Wild Kratts @TheKrattBros !! Look for next season to highlight #PoisonFrogs — Talk about #CreaturePower !!! This is our second time working with #WildKratts - the first being the episode on #FireSalamanders. We are always delighted to help because Wild Kratts is an amazing show, which teaches children actual and factual information — helping build the next generation of conservationists — something we strive to do here at AF. This next episode will be #AmphibiousAF

Blue-sided Leaf Frog #Agalychnis annae - one of the most spectacular species out there. It still blows my mind that there are frogs out there that look like this. Blue-sided Leaf Frogs are a critically endangered Central American species, susceptible to habitat loss and infectious disease. #Frog #Frogs #Frogger #Froggy #FrogsOfInstagram #LeafFrog #LeafFrogs #TreeFrog #TreeFrogs #FrogLife #Crypsis #Mimicry #AmphibiousAF #AmphibianFound #FrogsNeedOurHelp

Adorable baby Amazon Milk Frog, #Trachycephalus resinifictrix in the Herpetology Lab at the Amphibian Foundation. This species is known to utilize tree holes, which are an important component of their reproductive biology. Spawning occurs in these microhabitats and the larvae remain inside until #metamorphosis #Frog #Frogs #Frogger #Froggy #FrogsOfInstagram #TreeFrog #TreeFrogs #TreeFrog #TreeFrogs #FrogLife #Crypsis #Mimicry #AmphibiousAF #AmphibianFound #FrogsNeedOurHelp #MilkFrog

An adorable #GopherFrog which is Georgia's rarest frog, and imperiled throughout the southeast US. One of the Amphibian Foundation's highest priority projects, we are working with partners to save this species through captive-propagation, head-starting and habitat restoration. #Frog #Frogs #Frogger #Froggy #FrogsOfInstagram #GopherFrogs #FrogLife #AmphibiousAF #AmphibianFound #FrogsNeedOurHelp

Granular #GlassFrog, #Cochranella granulosa. A beautiful species from Central America. Like other glass frogs, it's relative translucence helps the frog blend in with its surroundings — some of the most spectacular camouflage in the natural world. Species such as these can remind us how important it is to conserve our amphibians. They are declining at an unprecedented and unsustainable rate. Currently, more than 3000 species are in decline or already extinct. #Frog #Frogs #Frogger #Froggy #FrogsOfInstagram #LeafFrog #GlassFrogs #TreeFrog #TreeFrogs #FrogLife #Crypsis #Mimicry #AmphibiousAF #AmphibianFound #FrogsNeedOurHelp
