A #CriticallyEndangered #phyllomedusine from #CostaRica One of the most beautiful #LeafFrogs ... This species is completely uncooperative for the purposes of photography. I was lucky he stayed still looking enough for me to get this one. #LeafFrog #JumpyFrog #YellowEyedLeafFrog #Agalychnisannae

Most Leaf Frogs turn darker shades in the evening, and A. annae is no exception. Still gorgeous. #Agalychnis #Agalychnisannae #Phyllomedusinae #LeafFrog #CriticallyEndangered #AmphibianConservation #CaptiveAssuranceColonies

This is where we work with non-Panamanian species of frogs from Central and South America. If you saw the post from two days ago, you saw that our central Panama frogs are housed in isolation on the #FrogPOD It was hard to get a shot of all the enclosures, so I focused on these four. In these we keep Leaf Frogs (subfamily: #Phyllomedusinae ) Cruziohyla calcarifer, the Splendid Leaf Frog; C. craspedopus, the Fringed Leaf Frog; Agalychnis moreletii, the Black-eyed Leaf Frog and Agalychnis spurelli, the Gliding Leaf Frog as well as two species of Glass Frog (family: #Centrolenidae ) Sachatamia albomaculata, the White-spotted Glass Frog and Cochranella granulosa, the Granular Glass Frog. Also in this room are other phyllomedusines such as Blue-sided Leaf Frog, Agalychnis annae; Red-eyed Leaf Frog, A. callidryas; Lemur Leaf Frog, Agalychnis lemur. We also have several morphs of Dendrobates tinctorius that we breed for research, exhibits and outreach - donating many of them to vari...

Agalychnis annae, Blue-sided Leaf Frogs in amplexus.

Hopefully, we can get this pair to spawn in the near future. A. annae is a critically endangered species from Costa Rica. We are lucky and grateful that we get to work with this species, thanks to our collaborative partners at the Manchester Museum and their amphibian conservation work in Costa Rica. #Agalychnisannae #Agalychnis #Phyllomedusinae #leaf #LeafFrog #CaptiveBreeding #CaptiveBred #EndangeredSpecies #AmphibianConservation

Agalychnis annae, the Blue-sided Leaf Frog from Costa Rica.

Such an amazing and spectacularly colored species. We are so grateful for the opportunity to work with them thanks to the generosity of @adamwbland and the Vivarium at the Manchester Museum. The Blue-sided, out Yellow-eyed Leaf Frog is critically endangered with numbers still declining in the wild. Several months ago we had an international collaborative phyllomedusine (and Anotheca) exchange with the Vivarium and look forward to working with them more in the future. #Agalychnis #Agalychnisannae #Phyllomedusinae #LeafFrog #CaptiveBreeding #CaptiveBred

Monkey and Leaf Frogs of the sub-family Phyllomedusinae; one of the most beautiful and interesting groups of frogs

Image
A composite of different species within the sub-family Phyllomedusinae; family: Hylidae. The Leaf Frogs (genera: Agalychnis and Cruziohyla ) are so named from their incredible coloration and camouflage (sometimes bordering mimicry) as well as their reproductive behavior of laying eggs on leaves above water. Monkey Frogs (genus: Phyllomedusa typically have reduced webbing on the hands and feet and rather than jumping, seem to prefer climbing, with slow deliberate movements. You can find frogs of all these genera on exhibit in the Fuqua Conservatory lobby
