Tomorrow, we are launching the first #GlassFrogWeek to highlight a beautiful and fascinating group of frogs known as the centrolenids. This has been a favorite group of ours for many years and we have had the privilege of working with a few species of Glass Frog over the years as well. Glass Frog illustration by Katie Karl. This Saturday, the Amphibian Foundation is hosting our Ribbit Exhibit , an art and photography show featuring amphibians and reptiles by local artists and foundation staff. Join us and a few of our educational animals on Dec. 16th from 12 to 4 p.m. for a special look at Atlanta’s amphibian art. The art will be on sale, along with t-shirts and new 2018 calendars, just in time for the holidays! All proceeds will go directly towards amphibian conservation. The Ribbit Exhibit was originally a part of the Amphibian Foundation’s first annual open house. The Open House was scheduled for last Friday, which fell on the same day as Atlanta’s first big snow of the season. We all know that the city shuts down when it snows in Atlanta, but we powered on, determined to welcome guests and partners into our classrooms and labs. I had a wonderful time talking about scientific illustration today. The illustration workshop was a lot of fun, and some great work was done by the audience from specimens (alcoholic and skeletal) ... We also brought in a few live critters to draw from. Kavarna is a wonderful place for scientific engagement. The Amphibian exhibition of illustrations will be open for one more week, so please stop by if you would like to see the impressive collection of illustrations, pottery and photography. Anthony and 'Blinkie' the Breaded Dragon were both hits. Illustration can be very exciting when you are working from live specimens!  I haven't had much time for illustration these days, but I felt inspired by the time of year and all the autumnal migrations happening right now in the salamander world, so I made some time for this one. Fall breeding salamanders are among my favorites. Marbled salamanders breed this time of year and the female lays her eggs in a dry Ephemeral pond basin. She then waits for the autumnal rains to fill the pond and inundate the eggs with water. She must leave the eggs then because Marbled Salamanders are poor swimmers and run the risk of drowning. I enjoy illustrating in Photoshop and it has helped me experiment with color - my line drawings by hand are always simply pen and ink. #ScientificIllustration #Illustration #Photoshop #MarbledSalamander #Ambystomatidae #Ambystomaopacum #Ambystoma

A recently produced resource displaying the truth about venomous snakes (content verified by Andrew Durso ) I loved this graphic so much I asked Liz if we could publish it on here on the frog blog. Snake myths have been coming u a lot lately on social media and I wanted to provide this excellent resource for addressing these myths —remember, if you have been bitten by a venomous snake, you probably deserved it.
