Our own Chelsea Thomas gave an amazing Atlanta Science Tavern talk tonight

Image
Chelsea Thomas, one of our dedicated interns working with culturing our invertebrates and live food, gave an amazing talk on the benefits of insects as human food. The Atlanta Science Tavern lecture, presented to a full house at Java Vino was captivating as evidenced by the array of enthusiastic questions presented by the audience and the 'bug buffet' Chelsea provided after her talk. She really hit it out of the park with her knowledge, enthusiasm and presentation of the material.

Come see this awesome exhibit sponsored by the Atlantic Science Tavern and the Atlantic Botanical Garden! Science illustrators have gathered to show their appreciation for amphibians by not only illustrating and photographing them, but by putting forth donations of sold artwork to help with the Metro Atlanta Amphibian Monitoring Program at the Atlantic Botanical Garden's Conservation Program. Please come to support the artists and more importantly the amphibians who need our help! Photo by Mark Mandica For more information, please see: http://ift.tt/1R2zzRN

A tiny #Eleutherodactylus made an appearance in the Orchid Greenhouse. I am almost certain it is E. planirostris , but it is so small it's hard to tell. Other possibilities are E. coqui and E. Johnstone #DirectDevelopment #DirectDeveloper #FrogAin'tGotNoTadpole

The same three #Axolotl embryos from earlier posts. Now, they are close to hatching. Gill filaments are clearly visible on the middle embryo. After they have had a few meals, we will release them into the High Elevation House @atlbotanical #LooksLikeToothless #Ambystoma #Ambystomamexicanum #Ambystomatidae

#Ambystoma mabeei, Mabee's Salamander @ Francis Marion National Forest. 14 ponds sampled so far this week and no sign of the Frosted Flatwoods Salamander. A. cingulatum was last detected in the forest by John Palis in 2010. This is a picture of the first Mabee's Salamander I have ever seen. Though it was so exciting to see one of these beautiful #MoleSalamanders the find was slightly overshadowed by not finding any Flatwoods sallys. (in the hand of John Palis)

Gorgeous #Pseudacris ocularis (Little Grass Frog) tadpole found today at Francis Marion National Forest. It was a great day for frogs and tadpoles, but not many #salamanders in the SC #Flatwoods. This tadpole is in the hand of Katie O'Donell @katie_m_o

I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of this beauty today @ Francis Marion National Forest ... Of course, her being radio tracked by an ARC biologist made it some easier to find. Apparently, her name is Shirley. #Crotalus #Crotalusadamanteus #Crotalidae #Rattlesnake #Telemetry #RadioTelemetry
